We are excited to highlight Canopy-based Artist Emily Galusha for this month’s In the Spotlight Series. Emily is a self-taught watercolor artist utilizing drawing, mixed media, ceramics, and printmaking in their work. Growing up in a creative and unique family, with her Mother as her first artist teacher, Emily is accustomed to creative exploration and expression.
“I come from a place where the Ozarks meet the Delta.
Raised by a loving artist & a “medicine man”, expression and a healthy spirit were impressed upon me at an early age. I was taught to keep my hands busy and point my arrow at my dreams. Today, I am happiest in nature or in the studio, keeping hands dirty or active. I spend my time creating, focusing on the relationships between Nature and humanity, living and longing.”
Studying under Ken Stout and Donald Harrington at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Emily received her Bachelors Degree of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Graphic Design. After graduating, Emily continued her art career and was awarded one of the Best Arkansas Artists by the Arkansas Times as well as other reputable titles along the way. Emily continues her journey in the art world in the Canopy community in Central East Austin.
Tour their studio any first Saturday of the month from 1-4pm during Canopy’s monthly open artist studios, Open Canopy. Emily is located in Building 1, #126.
